Do you listen to any songs MAINLY for the lyrics?

Any song rod stewart , or keith and mick penned .
music is usually secondary , being a singer it might just be me. it's ok only to play three chords as long as there in the right order...My all time favorite for lyrics would have to be...Every picture tells a story.

I take notice of lyrics on ballads, cos there's not much else to grab you with those. Otherwise catchy, bouncy tunes with hooks rule in my world.

I always thought Marillion wrote good lyrics, especially Hogarth.

I listen to almost everything for the lyrics,I guess that explains why I'm not into the "Hair" bands so much.I can only think of a couple songs from that genre that have lyrics I appreciate.

Anything new by Pink. She's badass, but I'm really startin to like her music here lately too...

I have to be interested in the lyrics to like a song. And I have to enjoy the singers voice to tolerate that... so.. its always about lyrics and the vocal for me.

If the music doesn't do anything for me even the greatest words aren't going to save the song. Otherwise I'll just read poetry.
Even something like Materials "words of advice", if they'd been dropped on some awful music, it'd just be too bad, good thing they weren't wasted like that. of course, bad lyrics can sink an otherwise great song & I agree about the 80's "hair bands" on that score. just bloody awful lyrics probably did as much to kill that scene as anything else. who can really take that much cheese.

then again some people miss the point of the lyrics entirely; like what happened with de do do do , de da da da

Okay, the first thing you hear of a song is the music. No way you pick up the lyrics on first listen. Therefore the music and tune is most important initially. To make a cd lasting, you have to have good lyrics. Otherwise, it's just catchy music. Nothing to it after that.

I agree with Travisty. Lyrics without music is worthless and should be where it can be best used, either in poetry or on the Lilith Fair. [img]wink.gif[/img]

i listen to the songs for the lyrics---how else am i going to get my instructions from the almighty lucifer?!?!

a song is a song and if it's good and it makes me feel good in a "i just played with myself" kind of way...well then i am HAPPY!
